Box Score BLUEFIELD – Defense paved the way for the Bluefield University Rams to beat the Union College Bulldogs 29-10 Saturday night at Mitchell Stadium. The Rams intercepted three Union passes, one a pick-six, one deep in BU territory, and one in the end zone, ending UC drives. The Rams improved to 2-2 on the season.
INSIDE THE GAME
- The Rams got on the board first with a 35-yard pick six by Tri'Mayal Cash. Joey Dales booted the PAT to give the Rams a 7-0 lead with 6:30 to play in the opening quarter.
- Union tied the game at 7-7 seconds into the second quarter.
- Nathan Herstich passed seven yards to Matthew Trevillian for a TD with 11:18 on the clock. The kick was blocked, and the Rams moved ahead 13-7.
- Dales booted a 38-yard field goal with 7:33 to play in the half to give BU a 16-7 lead.
- Union's 20-yard field goal with 45 seconds left in the half to make it a 16-10 game.
- The Rams took the opening possession of the second half and drove into Union territory. Dales kicked a 33-yard field goal to make it 19-10.
- KeDarrius Phinazee intercepted a pass killing a Union drive deep in BU territory and returned it to midfield midway through the third quarter.
- Dales booted a 24-yard field goal to give BU a 22-10 lead with 4:51 to go in the third.
- Mykkel Banks intercepted a Union pass in the end zone on the first play of the fourth quarter to stop a Bulldog threat.
- Herstich and Ebron connected on a 63-yard pass/run for a score early in the fourth to put Bluefield ahead 29-10.
- The Rams' defense held Union on fourth down with 3:49 left in the game and took possession at the Union 44. BU proceeded to run out the clock and win the game.

- Ebron caught six passes for 134 yards with a touchdown.
- Thomas Lee caught four passes for 31 yards.
- Cortarius Gilmore rushed 20 times for 70 yards.
- Herstich completed 14-of-29 passes for 209 yards and a two scores.
