WALESKA, Ga. – Redshirt freshman linebacker Ethan Walker of the Bluefield University football team has been named the Appalachian Athletic Conference Defensive Player of the Week, the league office announced Monday evening.
The Washington, D.C. native posted six total tackles, three tackles for loss, and one sack in his collegiate debut during Bluefield's 31-20 win over Thomas on Saturday.
Walker got his day started in the second quarter, recording his first career tackle and tackle for loss on the same drive. Later in the quarter, he stuffed a Nighthawks running back for no gain with under two minutes remaining in the half.
In the second half, Walker tallied another tackle for loss on 2nd-and-33, then followed it up with his first career sack on the very next play to return possession to the BU offense. He added another tackle in the fourth quarter to cap an impressive debut as the Rams secured the season-opening victory.
Bluefield returns to action September 6, traveling to face the University of the Cumberlands in a 7 p.m. kickoff.
