Box Score 2 BLUEFIELD, Va. - The BC softball team had their home opener against the University of Pikeville, Wednesday at Graham Recreational Park. The Rams improved to 7-9 on the season with the sweep of the Bears. BC won game one 5-4 before winning game two 1-0 in eight innings.
In game one, the Rams trailed 4-0 going into the sixth inning after Pikeville scored one run in the top of the third inning off of a solo home run by Molden, and then the Bears strung together hits in the top of the fourth to add on three more runs. In the bottom of the sixth,
Megan Arrington led off the inning with a single and
Kaitlyn Pennington followed with a single of her own.
Eryn Haley then laid down a sacrifice bunt to move the runners to second and third for
Baily Garin. Garin reached on an error by the second baseman for UPike, gaining an RBI.
Morgan Sawyers followed with a single, scoring Pennington, and moving Garin to second.
Kiki Jones entered the game to pinch run for Garin, and Jones and Sawyers moved up sixty feet on a passed ball.
Morgan Stephens then tripled to right field to pick up two RBIs and
Kristen Murphy followed with a sacrifice fly to center field to score Stephens and put the Rams up by one. Garin got the win in the circle for the Rams, and
Brienna Sparks picked up her first save on the season.
Game two was a pitching dual on both sides. Sparks was in the circle for the Rams, going the distance throwing a one hitter in eight innings of work, striking out eight UPike batters. The lone run for the Rams came in the bottom of the eighth inning, in International Tie Breaker (ITB).
Ali Bartley, pinch running for Murphy, started on second base in the eighth.
Mary Blake Avery laid down a sacrifice bunt to move Bartley to third.
Michaela Carter then singled to center field, on an 1-2 count to allow Bartley to score the winning run for the Rams. Pennington and Haley both finished 4-6 on the day, and Sparks picked up another win for the Rams.
BC improves to 7-9 on the season and remains 0-2 in the AAC. The Rams return to action Friday, March 11th as they take on conference foe Point University. Game times are set for 1:00 and 3:00 at Graham Rec Park.
