Bluefield Falls in Doubleheader Against Bluefield State

BLUEFIELD, Va. – The Bluefield University softball team dropped both games of a non-conference doubleheader against Bluefield State on Monday afternoon at Graham Recreation Park.

Game One – Bluefield State 7, Bluefield 0

Bluefield State took control early in the opener, capitalizing on a first-inning error to plate a run before adding two more on a triple later in the frame to take a 3-0 lead.

The visitors continued to build their advantage in the second inning, extend its lead to 5-0. BSU added single runs in the fourth and fifth innings to secure the shutout victory.

BU managed four hits in the contest, led by Chloe Dillow, who finished 2-for-3 with a double. Jada Jordan and Alondra Reeves also recorded hits for the Rams.

In the circle, Isabella Smith took the loss after allowing seven runs over five innings of work, while Katie Barrett provided a scoreless inning in relief.

Game Two – Bluefield State 10, Bluefield 4

The Rams struck first in game two, as Kenidy Harris delivered an RBI single in the opening inning to score Delana Loflin and give Bluefield a 1-0 lead. Bluefield added another run in the second when Olivia Bailey launched a solo home run to left field, extending the lead to 2-0.

Bluefield State responded in the third inning, stringing together timely hits to score four runs and take a 4-2 advantage. The visitors broke the game open in the fifth inning with a five-run frame, pushing the lead to 9-2.

The Rams continued to battle, adding a run in the sixth on an RBI double from Bailey and another in the seventh on an RBI single from Harris, but were unable to complete the comeback.

Harris led the offense with three hits and two RBIs, while Bailey added two hits, including a home run, and drove in a pair.

Ali Glover was charged with the loss in the circle, with Sara Lang providing relief.

The Rams return to action Tuesday when they host Carolina for a doubleheader beginning at 1 p.m.
