Box Score KINGSPORT, Tenn. - The Bluefield College men's basketball team is headed to the 'ship.
The Rams defeated the Appalachian Athletic Conference's top seed in the tournament and the No. 14 team in the nation 72-66, Friday afternoon at the MeadowView Conference Resort and Convention Center in the AAC semifinals.
The Bulldogs took the early lead, but the Rams charged and took the lead midway through the opening half and carried a 36-31 lead into halftime. Bluefield shot only 38 percent from the floor in the first 20 minutes, but a pesky Rams defense held TWC to only 31 percent from the field.
BC's largest lead came at eight points in the second half. There were nine lead changes and seven ties.
Bluefield held TWC without a field goal in the game's final four minutes.
Cordaris Towns led the Rams with a double-double, scoring 13 points and grabbing 12 rebounds. Stanthony Nelms also added 13 points along with six boards. Tony Hood finished with 11 points. Sidney Knox dished out four assists to go with his nine points, including a key three-point play late in the game that helped keep Bluefield in the lead.
Devante Jenkins paced Tennessee Wesleyan with 15 points and 13 rebounds. Leland Robinson also scored 17 and had seven rebounds. Trey Suttles finished with 12 points and Tre Tiller 10.
Bluefield, now 19-11 will play Union for the AAC Championship, Saturday at 2 p.m.
