Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Bluefield’s Comeback Effort Falls Short Against Milligan

BLUEFIELD, Va. – Bluefield University men's basketball erased a 10-point first-half deficit and battled to the final minute Thursday night, but Milligan pulled away late for a 101–94 victory inside the Dome.

The Rams shot an efficient 54 percent from the field in both halves and placed four players in double figures, but Milligan capitalized on key second-half runs and late free throws to secure the win.

Bluefield settled in after an early back-and-forth start, as Elijah White knocked down a three-pointer and Danny Alford finished inside to give the Rams a brief first-half lead. Ke'Shaun Tonsall sparked a mid-half surge with back-to-back finishes in transition, and Tyler Owens added a three during a strong stretch that saw BU build a three-point advantage.

Milligan responded late in the half with perimeter shooting to take a 50–47 lead into the break. The second half remained tightly contested, featuring five ties and five lead changes.

Tonsall was a force after halftime, scoring 15 of his team-high 24 points in the second half. A fastbreak dunk from Tonsall at the 16:53 mark tied the game at 58–58, and Isaiah Sanders later connected on a driving layup to trim the deficit to two midway through the half.

Bluefield continued to push, as DJ McDonald converted at the free-throw line and White added key finishes in the paint to keep the Rams within striking distance. With under four minutes remaining, a three from Tonsall cut the Milligan lead to four at 91–87.

However, Milligan answered with timely baskets and closed the game at the line down the stretch.

Tonsall led BU with 24 points on 9-of-14 shooting. White added 23 points, three rebounds, and two assists, while McDonald contributed 13 points and four rebounds. Alford added nine points and six boards, and DeAndre Miles chipped in six points. Bluefield finished with 29 bench points and shot 54.4 percent from the field for the game.

BU (3–22, 3–15 AAC) returns to action Saturday when the Rams host Reinhardt at 4:00 p.m. for Senior Day inside the Dome.
