CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. – The Bluefield College Rams football team is in the Bluegrass State of Kentucky once again, in search of their first win of the season. The Rams, who have already visited the University of Pikeville and last week trekked to Lindsey Wilson College, will battle the Campbellsville Tigers at noon Saturday.
BC enters the game 0-4, but have played much better than their record indicates. The Rams last week led then No. 3 Lindsey Wilson 3-0 on Drake Presley's first collegiate field goal and trailed 7-3 at half before falling 28-9. A week earlier the Rams led then No. 10 Faulkner 35-30 in the second half but fell 47-35.
Campbellsville comes into the game 1-2, claiming their first win of the season last Saturday against Union College 37-23. Quarterback Jacob Russell led the Tigers as he completed 14-of-20 passes for 161 yards and five touchdowns. Defensively Stephon Tanga had nine tackles.
Last Saturday at Lindsey Wilson the Rams ground game got 63 yards from Adrian Pope and 55 from Marion Harris. Cason Whitt, making his second start at quarterback, completed 18-of 43 passes for 224 yards with an interception. Semaj Tisdale and Mason Maples both hauled in six passes, Tisdale for 84 yards, Maples for 72.
Bluefield ranks among NAIA leaders in several categories. The Rams' 23.8 first downs a game are 13th in the country and the team's 763 rushing yards are 16th in the nation. Pope has run for 364 yards and is also 13th in the nation.
Defensively Harry Casseus helps anchor a defense that improves week-by-week. Casseus has 40 tackles while teammate Ernest Moore has 37. Frank Johnson, Gabe Spencer and Carlton Toussaint each have 27 tackles and Toussaint has a pair of interceptions. Spencer has picked off one pass.
Kickoff from Finley Stadium is set for noon.
Bluefield returns home next Saturday to take on Georgetown (Ky.).
