BLUEFIELD – The Bluefield College men's soccer team played on its home turf for the first time in the 2015 season, Wednesday night, but fell short against Grace College, losing 1-nil in a hard fought game that was statistically even in all categories except on the scoreboard.
"We came in with a good game plan but we didn't execute it," said BC head coach Chase Neidig. "We knew exactly what kind of team they were. We had things on paper from them, we had things on video from them and everything we expected from them, they did. Everything we were planning to do and execute our game plan, we didn't do."
After a scoreless first half, Grace's Nikolai Djordjevic found the net in the 47th minute on an assist from Kyle Hamlin. It proved to be the match's only score.
The Rams pushed and in the last portion of the game became the aggressor. It appeared Bluefield tied the game in the 82nd minute, but an offside penalty nullified the apparent goal by Benjy Slator.
"I liked the way we finished the game. The last 15 looked very good for us," Neidig observed. "I like the resilient way we played late in the game. I wish we would have done it earlier."
The Rams return to the pitch Friday against Ohio Christian in Circleville, Ohio. The next home game is scheduled for Sept. 19 against Columbia International.
