BLUEFIELD, Va. – Bluefield University Athletics has announced the hiring of
Ryan McCarty as the next head coach of the Rams men's soccer program.
McCarty brings nearly a decade of coaching experience to Bluefield, including seven years at the collegiate level, most recently serving as an assistant coach at Bob Jones University. During his time with the Bruins, McCarty played an integral role in one of the nation's most successful programs, helping guide the team to multiple NCCAA Division II National Championships while contributing to historic seasons and national recognition.
"We are excited for the future of men's soccer here at Bluefield under the direction of Coach McCarty," said Vice President of Student Development & Athletics Corey Mullins. "He knows what it takes to perform at a high level and how to recruit players who will make an impact on the pitch and in the community. We are honored to welcome him to the Ram Family."
McCarty was part of coaching staffs that won NCCAA Division II National Championships in 2016, 2021, 2022, and 2024, while earning United Soccer Coaches Staff of the Year honors in 2021 and 2022. The Bruins also posted the best records in program history during his tenure, including 17-2-2 marks in both the 2021 and 2024 seasons.
A former four-year player at Bob Jones University, McCarty served as a team captain during his junior and senior seasons and remains the program's all-time assists leader. He holds a USSF B License and multiple United Soccer Coaches diplomas, and is currently pursuing a master's degree in Sports Administration & Leadership.
"I'm excited to be the head coach for Bluefield men's soccer," McCarty said. "Coaching is my passion, and it's been a privilege to serve as an assistant at Bob Jones University these past five seasons where I've learned what it takes to run a championship program.
I would like to thank Vice President of Student Development & Athletics Corey Mullins and President Peterson for the opportunity to lead the program and look forward to partnering together.
At Bluefield, I will create an environment where young men develop and grow as students, athletes, and ultimately as leaders. We will be diligent in the classroom, competitive on the field, and lead by example on campus for God's glory. I can't wait to get started with our spring season and get on the pitch with the guys. Go Rams!"
McCarty will officially take over the Rams men's soccer program immediately and begin preparations for the upcoming spring season.
