Box Score BLUEFIELD – Senior Night for the Bluefield College women's volleyball team was a joyful occasion for the Rams as they defeated the Tennessee Wesleyan College Bulldogs in four sets, 25-20, 25-19, 20-25, 25-21, Friday night at the Dome Gymnasium.
Bluefield jumped ahead in the first set early and never trailed. The Rams lead was as high as six before TWC rallied to within three. With Ashlyn VanDyke serving the Rams took the win when the Tennessee Wesleyan return volley was out of bounds.
The Rams took a 5-2 lead in game two before TWC tied things at five. The Bulldogs took their first lead of the evening only to see BC knot the set at 10. The Rams went up 18-13 and a service ace by Jasmine Morrow made it 20-15. Mikaela Hurst's kill gave Bluefield the game 25-19.
With their backs against the wall Tennessee Wesleyan came out fighting in the third set. The teams were tied at several points early before the Bulldogs pulled ahead 19-14. The Rams got as close as three, but TWC got the win 25-20.
Wesleyan took the early lead in game four with BC tying the game at two, five, seven, eight and 10. The Rams grabbed the lead at 11-10 and did not trail again. Camry McCroskey's kill gave the Rams a four point lead and a block by Amber Taylor-Inge and Marissa Grice gave the home team a seven point lead, 21-14. TWC would not quit and fought back at one point getting to within three. Bluefield took the set and match on another block and kill by Taylor-Inge and Grice.
Morrow, Bluefield's all-time kills leader, had 16 kills on the night and Ellen Johnson had 11. McCroskey had 41 assists and eight digs. Johnson had 15 digs and Hannah Winter 11.
Prior to the match Bluefield College honored its four senior members of the volleyball team, Rachel Alley, Jasmine Morrow, Amber Taylor-Inge and Hannah Winter.
Bluefield hosts a pair of matches Saturday. The Rams take on Bryan in an AAC contest at 1 p.m. and then wrap up the regular season with a match against Bluefield State at 3:00.
