KNOXVILLE, Tenn. / BARBOURVILLE, Ky. – The Bluefield University volleyball team wrapped up its 2025 regular season over the weekend with a pair of hard-fought road matches, falling in straight sets to Johnson University (TN) on Friday and Union Commonwealth on Saturday in Appalachian Athletic Conference play.
Game One: Johnson (TN) 3, Bluefield 0 (26–24, 25–19, 25–19)
The Rams pushed one of the league's top teams to the brink in Friday's opener but came up short in a tight first set before dropping the next two. BU hit .133 as a team and was led offensively by Morgan Wigg, who tallied 11 kills and three block assists. Rachel Sasson added eight kills on a .263 hitting percentage to go with two service aces, while Ella Gawellek chipped in seven kills. Izabella Lechuga handed out 20 assists, and Eledy Torres paced the defense with nine digs.
Game Two: Union Commonwealth 3, Bluefield 0 (25–19, 30–28, 26–24)
Saturday's match in Barbourville was another close contest, as all three sets were decided by six points or fewer. Wigg again led the Rams' attack with 15 kills and a .243 hitting percentage, while Gawellek followed with 11 kills and Abbey Boehm added eight. Torres turned in a strong all-around effort with 24 digs, and Lechuga and Katie Voss combined for 27 assists. Camille Gonzalez Rivera added a pair of service aces, and Bluefield finished the match hitting .129 overall.
Wigg totaled 26 kills and 29.0 points across the two matches, while Torres collected 33 digs on the weekend to lead the back line. BU concludes the regular season with an 11–13 overall record and a 7–12 mark in AAC play.
