Box Score BLUEFIELD, Va. - Union College came into the Dome Gymnasium with a 12-3 record in the Appalachian Athletic Conference. One of those three losses came to the Bluefield College Rams on Oct. 6. Friday night on Dig Pink for Breast Cancer Awarness, the Rams came from a two-set deficit to beat the AAC's top team in five sets, 20-25, 18-25, 25-15, 25-21, 16-14.
Union rolled to a 7-3 lead before BC pulled to within two and later tied at 12 on
Jasmine Morrow's kill. Bluefield took its first lead 16-15 and the teams tied the next few points before Union went up 23-19. The longest volley of the game decided teh final point and gave Union the 25-20 win.
In game two Union built a 10-point lead before BC closed to within three of the lead, but teh Bulldogs again pulled away and won 25-18.
Bluefield scored first and never looked back in game three.
Amber Taylor-Inge's kill gave the Rams a 10-point lead, 22-12. Kills by Morrow and
Camry McCroskey brought about the set point and Bluefield took the game 25-15 on
Mikaela Hurst's kill.
In the fourth set the teams were tied early before Bluefield opened a five-point lead, 15-10. Bluefield never relinquished the lead and won 25-21 on
Ellen Johnson's block.
With the crowd on its feet the Rams opened a four-point lead in the final set and Union called time. The BC lead grew to 14-9 only to see the Bulldogs score five straight and tie the game at 14. BC regained the lead on a Union miscue and the Rams took the match when a return Union volley went long.
Morrow and
Rachel Alley had 14 kills apiece and
Camry McCroskey had 54 assists.
Ashlyn VanDyke had 18 digs.
Union dropped to 19-10, 12-4 in the conference, while Bluefield evened its record at 12-12 and 8-9 in the AAC. The Rams participate in a tri-match Saturday at Emory and Henry against the host Wasps and Shenandoah University.
