CLEVELAND, Ga. -- Even though Bluefield College and Truett-McConnell College fired a combined 22 shots on Sunday afternoon, just six were on frame and only one found the back of the net, as senior
Michael Callaghan's goal in the 20th minute held for BC to take the 1-0 Appalachian Athletic Conference men's soccer win at TMC Soccer Field.
Bluefield (6-2, 4-1 AAC) had nine shots on the afternoon, while the hosting Bears (4-5, 1-2 AAC) tallied 13. But, only four of Truett-McConnell's shots were on frame, with each being saved by senior keeper
Jefferson Watson. Watson earned his third clean sheet of the season and the 10th of his career.
Callaghan's goal is his fifth of the season. The Belfast, Ireland native has now scored a goal in each of the last four games and tallied at least a point in six-straight contests. He leads the team with five goals and is tied for the team lead in assists (2) with four other players.
Watson made a pair of saves early in the second half to maintain BC's 1-0 advantage, while the remainder of the Bears' shots in the game were off-target and the Rams' took the 1-0 victory.
Bluefield has now logged four shutouts this season. The most on record for a single season is five, which came in 2011 and included a 0-0 tie.
The Rams will square off with Union College (Ky.) on the road Wednesday at 3 p.m., looking to knock off the 9-0 Bulldogs. Union is 6-0 at home this season and 2-0 so far in AAC play.
