BLUEFIELD, Va. – The Rams netted a trio of goals in an eight-minute span during the first half and held on over the final 45 minutes en route to a 4-3 victory over Point University in men's soccer at the East River Soccer Complex.

Bluefield moves to 4-1, 2-0 AAC on the early season, matching the program's best start on record over its first five games of competition. The 2010 team also started 4-1 and also had its sole defeat come against Liberty University. The Rams have now won four straight, marking the second-straight season with a four-game win streak.

While the opening 30 minutes of play saw no goals, the action picked up quickly with a trio of scores for Bluefield in an eight-minute stretch.

Michael Callaghan began the onslaught of goals in the 32nd minute, as a feed back to Callghan from Felipe Milanez set up the senior for his second goal of the season from long range.

Andres Polacio upped the tally to 2-0 in the 38th minute, as a Dean Johnson shot was saved by Point keeper Trevor Vordenbaum, but caromed back into play.

As the hot stretch for the Rams continued, Matt Jones entered the game and scored within a span of 30 seconds. Hector Comacho fed a through ball to the sprinting Jones and the sophomore converted the opportunity from the right side for the 3-0 lead in the 40th minute.

But, the Skyhawks gained one back before the close of the half. Just a minute later, a shot from Phil Pressgrove hit the left post and came back into play. Federico De Aramburu took the carom and sent it into the back of the net, recording the first goal against the Rams in AAC play and the first in 342 minutes. The last goal scored against Bluefield came in the second half at Liberty in the season opener.

The Rams wasted little time in the second half gaining a three-shot goal once again. In the 50th minute, Callaghan played the ball in for a corner kick and quickly got it back. He put the ball in the box, finding Johnson sitting in front of the net for his second of the season.

The Skyhawks did not go quietly though, as they added a pair of tallied in the next 15 minutes of play. Bluefield was called for a foul in the box, allowing Pressgrove to take a successful penalty kick and make the score 4-2 in the 56th minute.

Pressgrove got out in the open field less than 10 minutes later, as a quick transition found the senior wide open above the box. A quick flick over a charging Hernandez pulled the Skyhawks within one.

Both teams continued to earn chances to score down the stretch, but neither converted. Hernandez made four saves over the final 20 minutes of action, while Vordenbaum made a pair of his own.

The Rams closed the game with a 21-17 advantage in shots, including a 14-10 edge in shots on goal. Vordenbaum tallied 10 saves in the loss, while Hernandez had seven games en route to his second-straight win as he and Jefferson Watson trade off games in net.

Bluefield had an incredible 10-1 advantage in corner kicks on the evening as they pressured the Skyhawks' defense all evening. Bluefield was whistled for 16 fouls to 12 for Point, while each team had one yellow card.

Bluefield hits the field again on Thursday evening, traveling to face former Mid-South Conference foe University of Pikeville at 7 p.m.
