COLUMBIA, S.C. -- The Bluefield College volleyball team took the opening set from Appalachian Athletic Conference opponent Columbia College, 25-23, but the Fighting Koalas answered back with three straight for the 3-1 win.
Bluefield started with 12 kills in the opening set to take the 1-0 lead.
But, BC's attack dwindled off in the remaining sets as they tallied eight in the next two and just four in the fourth set.
Bluefield tallied 10 errors in the second set for a negative hitting percentage as the Koalas leveled the match 1-1 with a 25-19 win.
The hosts then edged out BC 25-22 in the third before running away in the last 25-16.
Bluefield's attack was led by
Jasmine Morrow's nine kills followed by seven from
Michaela Chiarilli and six from
Ellen Johnson.
Marissa Grice tallied 24 assists.
Ashlyn Van Dyke amassed 15 digs in the defensive effort, while Johnson and Grice added 14 and 12, respectively.
Bluefield tallied seven team blocks, led by a pair from both Chiarillia and
Mikaela Hurst.
Columbia had a trio with double-digit kills en route to the win.
Bluefield faces its final AAC road match on Tuesday, traveling to face Milligan at 6:30 p.m.
