Mikaela Hurst had five kills to go with two solo blocks
and three block assists, Tuesday evening.LAURINBURG, N.C. -- The Bluefield College volleyball team avoided the sweep by taking the third set, 25-17, but the hosting Knights of St. Andrews claimed the fourth to take the 3-1 win on Tuesday evening. The Knights raced out to a 2-0 win behind sets wins of 25-10 and 25-21 before taking the last 25-20.
Bluefield posted a negative hitting percentage in the opening set as St. Andrews raced out to the 1-0 lead.
The Lady Rams closed the gap in the second, limiting their errors to just two while improving their hitting percentage to .316 including 14 kills. A .241 hitting percentage helped BC get the win in set three, scoring 10 kills and just three errors on 29 attempts. But, BC dropped off once again in the fourth, hitting just .053 with six errors.
Amber Taylor-Inge and
Jasmine Morrow logged seven kills apiece to lead the attack.
Ellen Johnson and
Michaela Chiarilli added six more apiece, while
Mikaela Hurst added five in the balanced attack and had a team-high .385 attack percentage.
Marissa Grice tallied 14 assists and
Channel Flores added 11 more.
On the defensive side,
Hannah Winter tallied 16 digs and Flores added 10 more. Hurst had a pair of solo blocks to go with three block assists and Chiarilli added four block assists.
BC's service game was strong as they had 13 aces. Johnson and Morrow had four apiece.
Bluefield returns to the Dome Gymnasium on Thursday evening to host Appalachian Bible College. Game time is 7 p.m. and also marks BC's Pink Out as part of October's Breast Cancer Awareness month.
