CLEVELAND, Ga. & WEST POINT, Ga. -- Junior
Jasmine Morrow surpassed a mileston of 1,000 career kills on Friday evening in a 3-1 defeat to Truett-McConnell College, while the squad rebounded on Saturday by splitting its tri-match, falling to host and Appalachian Athletic Conference for Point University in five sets and defeating Trinity College (Fla.) in four sets.
On Friday, the hosting Appalachian Athletic Conference opponent Bears edged BC in four sets, 25-19, 14-25, 25-23, 26-24. Morrow tallied a team-high 20 kills while hitting at a .366 clip.
Ellen Johnson added 13 kills for the Lady Rams while
Michaela Chiarilli chipped in eight more.
Channel Flores and
Marissa Grice spread the ball around, compiling 17 and 15 assists.
Johnson paced BC defensively with 23 digs, followed closely by
Hannah Winter's 22. Flores and
Lexie Mocarski followed with 14 and 10 digs, respectively.
Amber Taylor-Inge continued her pressure at the net with four block assists. Johnson had two more block assists while
Mikaela Hurst and
Rachel Alley added two each.
The Rams then dropped the fourth five-set match of the season as they opened Saturday's tri-match against AAC opponent Point. The hosts grabbed a 1-0 lead behind a 25-19 set, while BC responded with its best hitting set of the match at .267 for the 25-17 win. The teams traded off once again as Point took the third, 25-17, and then Bluefield picked up the slight edge, 25-22 in the fourth. Point closed strong though, taking the fifth by a 15-8 margin.
Morrow once again paced BC with 17 kills, followed by 10 from Johnson. Hurst chipped in with three blocks at the net to lead the effort at the net. Winter logged nine digs while Johnson and
Ashlyn Van Dyke added eight apiece.
In the weekend finale against Trinity, BC was led by six kills apiece from Hurst and Chiarilli. Taylor-Inge logged four blocks while Hurst added three more.
Hannah Amis led BC with 10 digs and
Kiki Murphy added eight more in the win.
Bluefield came out strong by taking the opening two sets, 25-22 and 25-15. Trinity bounced back with a 25-18 win in the third to avoid the sweep, but Bluefield came together once again in the fourth with the 25-18 set to win the match, 3-1.
Bluefield hits the court again on Tuesday, taking on St. Andrews University. BC fell to the Knights on Sept. 19 in four sets at the Dome. The AAC match is slated for a 6:30 p.m. start time.
