Cumberland victorious over Rams in MSC matchup

BLUEFIELD, W. Va. – The Cumberland University volleyball team defeated Bluefield College, Friday afternoon by a score of 3-0 (25-12, 25-12, 25-18) at the Ned Shott Gymnasium on the campus of Bluefield State College. The location of the game was changed due to a power outage at the Dome Gymnasium.

Errors by the Bluefield (1-7, 0-3 MSC) squad paired with a frontline attack from the Bulldogs (7-2, 1-2) carried the visitors quickly through the first two sets, winning by 25-12 margins in each.

Bluefield fell behind quickly in the third, but rallied back nicely to pull within a couple of points. However, another run by the Bulldogs sealed the team's first MSC victory of the year.

Jasmine Morrow provided 10 kills for Bluefield, and Rachel Alley connected on five of nine attempts to hit at a .444 clip. Sydney Spencer tallied 12 assists, while Ashlyn Van Dyke and Morrow had the most digs for the team at 16 and 10, respectively.

Cumberland's Mackenzie Gass recorded a game high 12 kills, doing so on 21 attempts with just one error for a .525 hitting percentage. Kasi Wells racked up 31 assists on the afternoon, as her teammates totaled 42 kills. McCrea Barney and Jenna Pavan led the Bulldogs with 16 and 13 digs, respectively.

Bluefield hosts the University of the Cumberlands tomorrow at 1 p.m., also taking place at the Ned Shott Gymnasium on the campus of Bluefield College.
