BLUEFIELD, Va. – The Bluefield University men's golf team finished in first place at the Fincastle Intercollegiate, held Monday and Tuesday at Fincastle Golf Club.
BU's A Team compiled a two-day team total of 579 (+19), while the Rams' B Team posted a 631 (+71).
Junior Jacob Mitchell led the way for Bluefield, finishing second individually with a two-day total of 142 (+2) after carding a 67 (-3) in round one. He recorded three birdies on the front nine and holed out for an eagle on the par-4 13th. Mitchell rebounded from a 42 on the front nine Tuesday with a 33 (-2) on the back nine.
Mitchell was named to the All-Tournament Team alongside freshman teammate Jack Healey, who led BU's B Team with rounds of 73 (+3) and 71 (+1) for a 144 (+4) total. The Cambridge, England native sank four birdies in the final round of his first collegiate tournament to earn the honor.
Seniors Silas Miller and Brayden Surface tied for fifth overall, each posting a two-day total of 145 (+5). Miller carded an under-par round in round one, while Surface turned in rounds of 70 (E) and 75 to help lift the A Team to victory.
Junior Eetu Kilpinen (147) and senior Tanner Walls (158) rounded out the scoring for Bluefield's A Team.
Junior Benjamin Bossi (157), sophomore Ethan Badgett (162), sophomore Jeronimo Bregel (168), and sophomore Hunter Elkins (176) also competed in the event for the Rams' B Team.
Bluefield's next tournament is the East Tennessee Collegiate, scheduled for Sept. 22–23 in Johnson City, Tenn.
