Faulkner stops Rams in season opener

Box Score
MONTGOMERY, Ala. - Faulkner University used a late charge to pull away and claim a 38-19 victory over the Rams in the football opener for both teams Saturday, Aug. 31 in 91-degree weather in a cross-division matchup of Mid-South Conference teams.
The home-stading Eagles took an early 7-0 lead before the Rams tied things when Aidan Wilder connected with Greg Ebron on a four-yard pass play. Tanner Griffith booted the extra point to tie the game with 6:14 to play in the opening period and it was tied after the first 15 minutes of play.
Faulkner scored 17 unanswered points in the second to carry a 24-7 lead into the intermission. After the break the Rams' Michael Everett scooped up a Faulkner fumble and returned it 24 yards for a score. The two-point conversion failed and it was 24-13. The Rams pulled closer later in the third when Wilder tossed a 20-yard scoring strike to Antonio Strickland with 5:08 left in the quarter. Again the two-point try failed, leaving the score 24-19. That was as close as the Rams would get as the final 14 points were scored by the Eagles.
