Box Score 2 PIKEVILLE, Ky. - Bluefield College's softball team split a doubleheader with the University of Pikeville Bears, Tuesday, winning the first game 10-3, before dropping the nightcap 6-5. In doing so the Rams gained their 18th win of the season, matching last year's record win total of 18.
In game one the Rams overcame a 3-1 deficit scoring three runs in each the second, fourth and seventh innings and banging out 14 hits in the game.
Mary Blake Avery continued her hot hitting as she was 3-for-4 with four RBIs.
Kaitlyn Pennington was 2-for-4 with three RBIs. Pennington's hits were a home run and a triple.
Meredith Throckmorton and
Eryn Haley were also 2-for-4, with one of Throckmorton's hits a double.
Brienna Sparks gained the win as she pitched six-and-two-third innings in relief. She did not allow a run, gave up four hits and struck out 12.
In game two the Rams jumped to a 4-0 lead, scoring twice in the first and second innings before UPike scored three times in the third and tied the game in the fifth. The Bears scored two in the bottom of the seventh to claim the win.
Sparks was tagged with the loss in game two, in relief of
Daelyn Hedger.
At the plate the Rams were led by Throckmorton, who was 3-for-4. Avery was 2-for-4 with a pair of RBIs.
Bluefield is now 18-12 and play next on Friday at Appalachian Athletic Conference opponent Montreat, before heading to conference foe Tennessee Wesleyan on Sunday.
