Corey Mullins picked up career coaching victory 100 Saturday afternoon, as the Rams defeated Point University 58-53 in a tightly contested Appalachian Athletic Conference contest at the Dome Gymnasium. Career win 100 for Mullins was win 47 at the helm of the Rams.
Early on it appeared that the milestone victory would not occur as Point dominated play early and led 10-7 after the first quarter. Bluefield took control in the second quarter behind a pair of three point baskets by
Danae Cox and led 23-19 at halftime. The Rams extended their lead in the third and were on top by 10, 48-38 going into the final 10 minutes. Point challenged in the fourth, but Bluefield was able to hold on for the victotry.
Cox led Bluefield with 16 points, coming on four three point baskets, a pair of free throws and a pair of buckets from the field.
Hannah Preservati connected on three treys and finished with 13 points.
Courtney Kendrick had a game-high 10 points and finished with eight points, two assists and three blocks.
Alexia Manning and Candace Rhodes led Point with 10 points apiece.
Bluefield is now 11-8 overall and 7-5 in the AAC. Point fell to 14-5 and 7-5 in conference play. The Rams host Allen University, Wednesday evening at 5:30 in the Dome.
