BLUEFIELD, Va. – The Bluefield University women's basketball team closed out the 2025-26 season Saturday afternoon inside the Dome, falling 78-54 to Reinhardt.
Bluefield struck first on the opening possession, as Annalee Woodson knocked down a jumper just 26 seconds into the contest off an assist from Ashanti Northcross. Later in the first quarter, Elle Gunter connected from beyond the arc at the 2:45 mark, trimming the deficit to seven. Anna Smith added a jumper in the final minute, and J'Maia Joseph converted a pair of free throws to help the Rams close the opening period on a small push.
In the second quarter, Elizabeth Smith scored in the paint off a Gunter assist, and Anna Smith followed with a mid-range jumper to keep the Rams within striking distance. Gunter added a strong finish inside midway through the frame, and Smith came up with a steal that led to another BU basket. Despite the effort, the Rams entered halftime trailing 42-21.
Bluefield responded with its most productive stretch in the third quarter, outscoring Reinhardt 17-19 in the period. Gabriela Rosado opened the half with a layup, and Maddie Day knocked down a pair of free throws before drilling a three-pointer from the right wing at the 1:29 mark. Northcross added back-to-back jumpers to cut into the deficit, while Gunter went 2-for-2 at the line to cap a competitive quarter for the Rams.
In the fourth, Northcross continued to attack, scoring on a three-pointer and a layup early in the period. Abby O'Quinn added a layup in transition off a Gunter assist, and Day buried another three-pointer with just under five minutes to play. Woodson and Gunter each scored in the final two minutes as BU continued to battle until the final horn.
Gunter led the Rams with 15 points, six rebounds, four assists and four steals in 36 minutes. Northcross added nine points, three steals and two assists, while Day finished with nine points, highlighted by two three-pointers. Anna Smith contributed six points and seven rebounds, and Elizabeth Smith added six points and two boards.
The Rams finish the year with a 3-26 overall record and a 2-18 mark in AAC play.
