Box Score 2 The Bluefield softball team traveled to Dayton, Tennessee to open up conference play against Bryan College Saturday. The Rams came up short losing game one 3-0 and losing game two 5-0 to the Lions.
Junior right-hander
Baily Garin started game one and held the Lions scoreless through three complete innings. Layce Walker doubled to lead off the fourth inning and then advanced to third on Bean's single. Zimmerman then doubled to left to bring in both baserunners. Two batters later, Nunnelly doubled to center to bring in the Lion's final run.
Brienna Sparks came in as relief for Garin in the fourth and shut down the Lion's offense for the remainder of the game.
On the offensive side, the Rams only had four hits.
Morgan Sawyers,
Michaela Carter,
Ali Bartley and
Morgan Stephens all had one hit a piece in the game.
In game two, Sparks started on the mound and allowed one run in the first inning after hitting the leadoff batter. After that, the Lions did not score again until they scored two runs in both the fifth and sixth innings.
The Rams had runners in scoring position in the third inning after
Kaitlyn Pennington singled to lead off the inning and then advanced to third on
Mary Blake Avery's double but were unable to produce a run. Avery finished the game with two hits, while Pennington, Stephens and
Eryn Haley each had one hit in the game.
The two losses put the Rams at 0-4 overall and 0-2 in the AAC.
