Box Score BLUEFIELD, W.Va. – Bragging rights for the next year in women's basketball belong to Bluefield College. The Rams crossed the state line Monday night and claimed a 70-42 win over the Bluefield State College Lady Blues in the 2015 women's Battle of the Bluefields.
The Rams jumped to a 17-7 lead at the end of the first period and never looked back. That 10 point lead grew to 18 at the intermission as BC carried a 40-22 lead into the intermission. The Rams were buoyed in the first half by 52 percent shooting from the field. Conversely BC held BSC to 28 percent shooting in the first 20 minutes.
The second half saw the Rams push their lead as high as 30 points as Coach Corey Mullins was able to muster valuable playing time for his entire roster.
Monique Robson came off the bench to score 17 points on seven-of-eight shooting from the field. Maryah Mazyck finished with 11 points and Courtney Kendrick added 10. Kierra Bell-Linnear pulled down a team high eight rebounds along with two assists and a steal. Danae Cox dished out five assists and had three steals, while Shelby Key finished the night with eight points, three steals and a pair of assists. Kendrick and Tyra Jackson had five rebounds apiece for BC.
Chaunte McDowell led BSC with nine points five rebounds and four steals. Tierra Richberg finished with eight rebounds.
The Rams are now 5-3 and return to action Wednesday night in an Appalachian Athletic Conference contest at Tennessee Wesleyan. BSC is 0-5 for the season.
