Saturday afternoon's first game tips at 2:00 with Cumberlands battling Methodist. Bluefield faces Allen in the 4 p.m. finale.
"It's a great thing to have here in the community. It gets everyone involved and we're looking forward to having Allen University come up along with Methodist University and our old buddies from the Mid-South, Cumberlands," said BC head basketball coach Richard Morgan.
"It will be very good basketball, quality basketball up and down, a lot of action, good for the fans. I think it will be good for us to have that."
Support from the local community has helped make the two-day event a reality and Morgan is grateful for those who help make it happen.
"We are blessed to have the Bowen Foundation come in and let us use the Bowen name for the classic. Frank Wilkinson has been great helping us out here at Bluefield College. We really want to dedicate it all to Buzzy Wilkinson for what he has done, being the great Wahoo that he was," Morgan said.
Morgan and Wilkinson are former basketball stars at the University of Virginia, Morgan starring for the Cavaliers I the 1980s and Wilkinson still holding records at UVa from his playing days in the 1950s.
Morgan concluded, "I am really looking forward to the field that we have. We are going to continue this every year. It used to be called the Ramey Classic. We are just replacing the name and are going to keep the quality of play the same."
