Box Score BLUEFIELD, Va. - The Bluefield College women's basketball team gained its first Appalachian Athletic Conference win of the young season with a commanding 87-57 victory over the Columbia (S.C.) College Koalas, Tuesday night at the Dome Gymnasium.
A trio of Rams scored in double figures led by Danae Cox and Shelby Key with 12 apiece. Monique Robson added 10 as all Rams who played etched their mark into the scoring column. Bluefield never trailed in the contest, leading 19-6 after the first quarter. The Rams carried a 42-25 lead into the break and extended their lead in the final two periods of play.
Tyra Jackson came off the bench to pull down a team-high seven rebounds. Adrianne Goodlet, Kierra Bell-Linnear and Courtney Kendrick each grabbed six boards for Bluefield who is now 4-3 overall and 1-1 in the AAC.
Columbia's BriAna Johnson led all scorers with 16 points.
Bluefield's defense was key in the contest as they held Columbia to 28 percent shooting from the field for the game. The Rams connected on 46 percent of their shots including 50 percent (9-of-18) from three point territory.
BC returns to action Monday in the Battle of the Bluefields against Bluefield State College. Tip-off is set for 6 p.m. at the Ned Shott Gymnasium on the BSC campus.
