Box Score 4 BLUEFIELD, Va. -- The 2014 softball season came to a close on Sunday, with the honoring of Bluefield College's lone senior,
scored on a double-steal. The right-fielder had reached base with a single up the middles and advanced on a groundout, then a single from Uehara. As Uehara got caught in a rundown between first and second on a steal attempt, Conkle was able to score before Uehara was tagged out in the pickle.
Bluefield posted another run in the fifth as a bases loaded walk allowed Conkle to score once again. But, BC couldn't take advantage of the bases full of Rams, as a strikeout and pop out closed the threat.
St. Catharine tacked on three more runs in the sixth before BC was held scoreless in the seventh for the 10-2 final.
Between games BC head coach
Randy Fielder honored the program's lone senior,
Aline Uehara, for her contribution to the program during her two-year career.
St. Catharine once again jumped out quickly, sending the first pitch of the game over the left field fence for a 1-0 lead. They added one more run on back-to-back hits for the 2-0 lead.
Bluefield answered back in the second with what turned out to be its only run of the game.
Morgan Stephens led off with a double over the left fielder's head, and
Kattie Evans followed with an RBI single.
St. Catharine then scored a trio of runs in the third, a single tally in the fourth and two more in the sixth for the 8-1 win and DH sweep.
