Rams use 27-10 run to get past WVU-Tech, Saturday

Five Rams tallied double-digit totals.

SOUTH CHARLESTON, W. Va. – The Bluefield College men's basketball team used a 27 -10 run over a stretch of nearly 10 minutes in the second half en route to an 88-83 win over West Virginia Tech Saturday evening at the South Charleston Community Center.
 
Five Rams (7-3) tallied double-digit scoring totals, led by 19 apiece from Kearsten Marion and Andrew Wilson. Alex Lubsey added 18 more, while Kyle Grisby and Josh Nesbit added 10 points each in the Rams' second victory over the Golden Bears this season.
 
The Rams shot 30-for-61 (49.2%) from the field for the game, including 7-for-16 (43.8%) from beyond-the-arc on the night. WVU-Tech shot 33-for-75 (44%), but just 5-for-20 (25%) from three-point land.
 
The Golden Bears (8-9) also had five double-figure scorers, led by 20 points from Jauries Thomas. Leon Cooper, Jr. added 15.
 
The teams were well-matched on the boards, with BC holding the slim 40-39 edge. Eric Dukes, Josh Nesbit and Devin Page each pulled down seven rebounds, while the game high eight rebounds came from WVU-Tech's Thomas.

The first half featured seven ties and five lead changes. Both teams' largest leads in the first 20 minutes would be just six points. WVU-Tech held a 29-23 edge with 7:27 left on the clock, but BC reeled off a 14-2 run to take a 37-31 edge. 

A 6-2 answer from WVU-Tech made it 39-37, BC at the break.

The second half looked as if the game would be close throughout, but the ninth and final tie came at 42-all with 16:57 to go on the clock. However, from there the Rams began their 27-10 run to open up a 17-point advantage, 69-52 with 7:22 left in the game.
 
Wilson led the charge in the Rams' hot stretch, pouring in 13 points, including seven straight at one point. He knocked down three from three-point land during the run. Marion added six to help the Rams get a comfortable cushion, while Page added four, Lubsey three and Grisby added a free throw.
 
WVU-Tech chipped away over the final seven minutes and forced the Rams to knock down their free throws in the closing minute. BC hit 5-of-6 to close out the game, with the Golden Bears getting a bucket at the buzzer to bring the score to 88-83.
 
The Rams forced 20 turnovers and picked up 12 steals, with five coming from Wilson. Marion dished out four assists.
 
Bluefield steps back into conference action on Thursday, Jan. 9, hosting Cumberland University. The women's team leads off at 6 p.m., with the men following at 8 p.m. at the Dome.
