Women's soccer suffers first loss of season

GEORGETOWN, Ky. – The Bluefield College women's soccer team suffered its first setback of the 2013 season, with hosting Georgetown College claiming a 3-0 victory at iHigh Field Saturday in Mid-South Conference action. The game served as a Kick it to Cancer match, raising funds for the National Foundation for Cancer Research.

The loss halts Bluefield's program best four-game win streak, moving them to 4-1 on the year. They also fall to 0-1 following their first MSC matchup of the year. Georgetown is now 1-1-1 for 2013 and 1-0 in conference play.

Bluefield was held to just six shots on the afternoon—a season low—with just three being on target. Conversely, the Tigers fired 14 shots, with 10 of those being on goal.

Morgan Zimmer broke the 0-0 tie in the 27th minute on an unassisted goal. Nina Cundiff recorded the Rams' sole shot on goal in the first half looking to square the game again with less than four minutes remaining, but GC keeper Danielle Lang made one of her three saves on the day to keep the Tigers' momentum.

Georgetown added goals in the 56th and 67th minutes to open up a 3-0 advantage which the Rams could not break into.

The Rams, who have exceled on corners this season, was not awarded a corner all day. However, Georgetown only had one.

Kayla Richardson made seven saves in net for BC.

The Rams continue MSC play next Wednesday, traveling to face University of Pikeville. Game time is scheduled for 5 p.m.
