BLUEFIELD, W.Va. – The Bluefield University women's soccer team battled hard on Senior Day but fell 2-0 to No. 11 Truett McConnell on Saturday afternoon at the East River Complex in Appalachian Athletic Conference play.
Before the match, the Rams recognized seven seniors for their contributions to the program — Savannah Holmes, Mollie Bolton, Joanna Lemus-Rios, Lucy Nicely, Allyson Clark, Ashlyn Newman, and Analee Woodson.
Bluefield turned in a determined defensive effort against one of the top teams in the country. Goalkeeper Autumn Matthews recorded 12 saves while facing 26 total shots, keeping the Rams within reach throughout the contest. The Rams' back line — anchored by Taylor Inocelda-Bihag, Moriah Mingo, and Hazel Parlett — limited quality chances in open play.
With the loss, BU moves to 1-12 overall and 0-11 in AAC action.
The Rams return to action Tuesday, Oct. 22, when they travel to Union Commonwealth for a 4:00 p.m. kickoff.
