Nesbit leads Rams past Barber-Scotia, 74-52

Nesbit tallied his second double-double of the season, Friday evening in BC's win over the Sabers.

BLUEFIELD, Va.Josh Nesbit tallied 19 points and pulled down 11 rebounds, Friday evening, as Bluefield took care of Barber-Scotia College, 74-52, in the first day of the Ramey Car Classic at the Dome Gymnasium.
 
Bluefield (4-2) placed four scorers in double-figures, with Nesbit being followed by 13 from Alex Lubsey and 10 apiece from both Kearsten Marion and Andrew Wilson. Marion handed out six assists. Devin Page added eight rebounds on the night, with BC dominating the boards 47-33—a new season high for the Rams. Bluefield had 15 offensive rebounds, leading to 15 second-chance points.
 
Barber Scotia was led by Ricky Bowser's 14 points, along with 12 from Carlos Benton and 10 from Dequan Horn.
 
Nesbit collected the Rams' first six points before Barber-Scotia came back with six-straight to knot the game.
 
The Sabers continued to hang around through the first portion of the opening half, before a 12-3 run from the Rams gave the hosts a 25-14 advantage with nearly six minutes remaining in the first frame. Barber-Scotia would never close the gap to single-digits the rest of the night.
 
After taking a 32-19 lead into intermission, Bluefield came out of the gates in the second half with a 6-0 run. Nesbit and Lubsey each knocked down a pair of free throws while the two teamed up to cap the quick burst, as Lubsey slammed home a feed from Nesbit.
 
A 13-2 rally late in the contest from Bluefield set the game well out of sight for the Sabers. Nick Stathopolous began the run with back-to-back threes while Andrew Wilson added the next seven—four from the line and one from beyond-the-arc. Wilson's three gave BC its largest lead of the game, 69-43, as they cruised in for the 74-52 win.
 
Bluefield shot 25-of-61 (41%) from the floor, compared to 17-of-53 (32.1%) shooting for the Sabers.
 
Bluefield tallied assists on 15 of its 25 buckets and managed a season-low tying 11 turnovers on the night.
 
The Rams had a high contribution from the bench, scoring 32 points from non-starters.

Bluefield is back at it in day two of the Ramey Car Classic, Saturday at 4 p.m. The Rams will take on West Virginia Tech, who fell 89-80 against St. Catharine College in Friday evening's first game.

St. Catharine and Barber-Scotia play at 2 p.m., Saturday.
