Tierra Huntsman

Assistant Coach Tierra Huntsman enters her first season on the bench for Bluefield College Women’s Basketball.  Coach “T” arrives in Bluefield after one season as an assistant coach at Frostburg State University in Frostburg, Maryland.  In her lone year with the Bobcats, the Frostburg Women’s Basketball program recorded their best season since 2006 with a record of 15-11.

Prior to coaching, Huntsman had a standout career as a member of the Gardner-Webb Runnin’ Bulldogs basketball team.  In four years, Coach “T” started 92 games for head coach Rick Reeves. Gardner-Webb recorded 65 wins in Huntsman’s time on the court. As a sophomore, Huntsman was a part of an opening game win over the Tar Heels of UNC which was the beginning of a 19-12 season for the Bulldogs.  In her career, Tierra scored 1,221 points which is good enough to make her the 4th all-time leading scorer in program history.  During her last two seasons, she was named to the Big South All-Conference team.  She was also a member of the Big South Conference Dean’s List as a senior.

Huntsman is an Indiana native, prepping at Connersville High School. While in high school, she scored over 1,000 points and was a two-time Indiana All-state team selection.  She was also named to the Indiana Basketball Coaches Association Top 100 list.  As a senior, Tierra averaged 21.1 points per game and 3.6 assist per game.  She competed with the Indiana Flight AAU team under head coach Greg Mason.

Coach “T” will be responsible for recruiting the next class of talent to Bluefield.  On the floor, she will be involved with player development working mainly with the guard position.

“I am excited to work with the Bluefield College Women’s basketball program and Coach Mullins” coach Huntsman states.  “I am looking forward to being a part of their continued success.”

Coach Mullins is also enthusiastic about coach Huntsman’s arrival to campus.  “In the process of hiring an assistant coach for this team, I really wanted someone who knew what it was like to compete at a high level” he said. “I am familiar with Tierra from my previous experience in the Big South Conference and from playing Gardner-Webb here at Bluefield.  As I reached out to some of my coaching contacts for potential hires, her name stood out to me.  Coach “T” brings an energy and excitement that will help us develop further a culture of leadership and excellence in the years to come.”

Huntsman graduated in 2018 with degrees in Psychology and Sociology from Gardner-Webb University.
