WALESKA, Ga. – Bluefield University placed three student-athletes on the Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC) Men's Volleyball All-Conference teams, the league office announced Wednesday night.
Leading the way for the Rams was junior outside hitter Mason Lloyd, who earned All-AAC First Team honors for the second consecutive season.
A native of Las Vegas, Nevada, Lloyd turned in another standout campaign, ranking second in the conference in total kills (293) and third in kills per set (3.66). He recorded a career-high 28 kills on March 19 at Shenandoah and proved to be a key all-around contributor for BU. Lloyd also led the team in digs per set (1.53) and total service aces (30), while adding 39 total blocks on the season. Lloyd's selection marks his third career All-AAC honor, having previously earned First Team recognition last season and Second Team honors as a freshman.
Sophomore outside hitter Kari Williams joined Lloyd on the All-AAC First Team after leading the conference in kills per set (3.78) while ranking eighth in total kills (223). The Los Angeles, California native recorded four 20-kill matches this season, including a 23-kill, 11-dig double-double at Truett McConnell. Williams moves up after earning All-AAC Second Team honors during his freshman campaign.
Junior setter Benedict Somes rounded out Bluefield's honorees with an All-AAC Second Team selection following another strong season directing the Rams' offense. The Las Vegas, Nevada native became Bluefield's all-time assists leader this season, totaling 2,088 career assists. Somes ranked fourth in the AAC in assists per set (8.21) while adding 95 digs and 16 service aces. He recorded five matches with 40 or more assists, including a 47-assist, 11-dig double-double at Shenandoah.
Around the conference, St. Thomas' Kaelen Ingram was named AAC Player of the Year, while Reinhardt's Tessa Corrales earned Coach of the Year honors.
Bluefield opens AAC Tournament play Thursday against Warner at 6:30 p.m. in Kingsport, Tennessee.
