BLUEFIELD, Va. – The Bluefield University men's volleyball team split a pair of matches Saturday inside the Dome, falling to Life University in the opener before bouncing back with a sweep of Truett McConnell in the Senior Day finale.
In the first match of the day, Bluefield dropped a straight-set decision to Life (25-16, 25-13, 25-17).
The Rams totaled 28 kills and hit .197 as a team, with Mason Lloyd leading the way with 11 kills. Kari Williams added nine kills, while Mamadou Dieng contributed five on a .273 clip. Despite improved efficiency in the third set, BU was unable to overcome a strong Life attack that hit .526 for the match.
Bluefield regrouped in the evening match and delivered a strong performance in a 3-0 sweep of Truett McConnell (25-22, 26-24, 25-19).
The Rams posted 39 kills and hit .247 as a team while controlling the match defensively with 14 total blocks. Kari Williams led the offense with 13 kills, while Mason Lloyd and Mamadou Dieng each added seven. Richard Cisneros was a force at the net with five block assists and five kills, and Kemani Riley contributed seven kills in his final home match.
Setter Benedict Somes guided the offense with 34 assists as BU hit .282 in the second set to secure a tightly contested frame before closing out the sweep.
The nightcap also marked Senior Day for the Rams, as Bluefield honored senior middle hitter Kemani Riley prior to first serve.
The Rams return to action Thursday when the Rams travel to Babson Park, Florida, to face St. Thomas at 5 p.m.
