BLUEFIELD, W.Va. – The Bluefield Rams were limited offensively as Bluefield State claimed an 8–1 victory Tuesday afternoon at Bowen Field.
Bluefield State jumped out early with two runs in the first inning and added another in the fourth before extending its lead, 5–0.
The Rams broke through in the sixth inning. Chris Johnson doubled down the left-field line to start the rally before Cody Crafton reached on a fielder's choice that allowed Johnson to score, trimming the deficit to 5–1.
Bluefield State responded with three runs in the eighth inning to push the lead to 8–1.
Johnson led BU at the plate with two hits, including a double. Juan Almonte also recorded two hits, while Michael Royston, Dylan Dotson, and Crafton each added a hit as the Rams totaled seven in the game.
Riley Ruiz took the loss after allowing two runs over three innings. Ryan Cowell followed with two innings of relief, while Raymond Smith, Brandon Poole, and Noah Burtner also appeared on the mound for BU.
BU returns to action Saturday when they host Miami-Hamilton for a non-confernce doubleheader. First pitch is set for 3 p.m. at Bowen Field.
