BLUEFIELD, W.Va. – The Bluefield Rams split Saturday's doubleheader with Miami-Hamilton at Bowen Field, dropping the opener before bouncing back to take the nightcap.
Game One: Miami-Hamilton 7 – Bluefield 3
Bluefield carried a 1–0 lead into the middle innings before Miami-Hamilton erupted for six runs in the sixth inning to take control of the opener.
Chris Johnson provided the Rams' first run with a solo home run in the fourth inning to give BU the early advantage. Miami-Hamilton tied the game in the fifth before capitalizing on a series of errors during a six-run sixth inning to pull ahead 7–1.
BU answered in the bottom half of the sixth. Nick Stergiou singled and later scored on a double from Cody Crafton, and Josh Holland added an RBI groundout to trim the deficit to 7–3. The Rams finished with eight hits in the contest but were unable to push across additional runs.
Michael Royston and Sean Cherry each collected two hits for BU, while Crafton drove in a run with his sixth-inning double.
Ryan Cowell took the loss after allowing five runs across 5.1 innings. Brent Avery worked 1.2 innings in relief.
Game Two: Bluefield 4 – Miami-Hamilton 2
The Rams responded in Game Two behind a strong start from Raymond Smith and a four-run second inning.
Nick Stergiou sparked the rally with a triple to right field before Evan Leese drove him in with an RBI single. Jordan Ramsey followed with an RBI single, and Johnson capped the inning with a two-run home run to give BU a 4–0 lead.
Miami-Hamilton cut into the lead in the fourth, but the Rams' pitching staff shut the door from there.
Smith earned the win after tossing six innings, allowing two runs while striking out six. Noah Burtner recorded the save with a scoreless seventh inning, striking out two.
Johnson led the offense with two hits and two RBIs, while Ramsey, Crafton, Stergiou, and Leese each added a hit as BU finished with six hits.
BU concludes the three-game series Sunday with a 12 p.m. first pitch at Bowen Field.
