BLUEFIELD, W.Va. – The Bluefield Rams dropped both games of Saturday's doubleheader against Montreat at Bowen Field.
Game One: Montreat 12 – Bluefield 0
Montreat struck early and maintained control throughout the opener.
The Cavaliers plated three runs in the first inning behind a three-run home run and added two more in the fifth before breaking the game open with a six-run seventh inning.
BU was limited to three hits in the contest. Sean Cherry, Michael Royston, and Chris Johnson each recorded a hit for the Rams.
Brandon Poole took the loss after 4.1 innings of work, allowing five runs while striking out eight. Raymond Smith Jr. provided 2.2 innings of relief.
Game Two: Montreat 7 – Bluefield 5
Game Two featured a strong response from BU before Montreat rallied late.
Montreat jumped out to a 3–0 lead in the first inning, but the Rams answered in the bottom of the third with five runs to take a 5–4 advantage. Johnson delivered an RBI single, Nick Stergiou added an RBI knock, Cherry drove in a run, and Dylan Dotson singled home a run during the rally.
Stergiou led the offense, finishing 3-for-4 with an RBI. Jordan Ramsey added a double, while Dotson and Johnson each recorded hits and RBIs as BU totaled seven hits in the nightcap.
Montreat regained the lead in the seventh inning on a three-run home run from D. Restrepo, turning a one-run deficit into a 7–5 advantage.
Ryan Cowell started and allowed four runs over 4.1 innings. Noah Burtner took the loss in relief.
The Rams wrap up the series against Montreat on Sunday with a 12 p.m. first pitch at Bowen Field.
