Bluefield Battles No. 1 Reinhardt, Celebrates Senior Class in Emotional Finale

Bluefield, VA.- The Rams put up a strong fight against Reinhardt University in their three-game series, despite the eventual losses. The Rams were determined, competitive, and resilient, refusing to back down against the top team in the Appalachian Athletic Conference. Bluefield's offense, leadership, and overall grit were on full display, proving that they are a force to be reckoned with as the season starts to wind down.

In a highly anticipated series, Bluefield's 20 seniors were honored following their final home game, marking a moment of reflection for these players who have contributed so much to the team's success over the years. Their leadership and hard work shone throughout the series, and their commitment to the program was evident in every game.

Game 1:

The first game of the series on April 18th saw Bluefield taking the early lead with Nick Stergiou's single bringing in John Greenawalt in the first inning. Despite Reinhardt's efforts to catch up, Bluefield continued to battle. In the third inning, Dylan Cutler's clutch double brought in two more runs, closing the gap and making the game 4-3.

Even as Reinhardt surged ahead in the later innings, Bluefield never gave up, with the Rams rallying for a couple of runs in the ninth. While Reinhardt secured the 13-7 win, Bluefield proved that they could compete at the highest level, displaying great offensive talent and the ability to respond under pressure.

Key Performers:

Game 2: 

In a thrilling Game 2, Bluefield had Reinhardt on the ropes, leading 6-2 in the middle innings. Andres Vega's bat was on fire, going 3-for-4 with 3 RBIs, while Nico Guerra also had a strong performance at the plate. Bluefield's defense, led by Jaden Rose, kept Reinhardt at bay through most of the game, showing they could hold their ground against top-tier competition.

However, the game turned in the later innings as Reinhardt found a way to capitalize on Bluefield's mistakes, pushing the game into extra innings. With the score tied 6-6, Reinhardt eventually walked away with a 7-6 victory in the 11th inning. Despite the tough loss, Bluefield's never-give-up attitude and ability to stay composed under pressure were evident.

Game 3: 

In the series finale on April 19th, Bluefield jumped out to an early lead, with Andres Vega hitting a two-run homer to put the Rams on top 3-2. Despite a couple of late-game surges from Reinhardt, Bluefield's offense, led by Vega and Guerra, stayed in the game and kept the pressure on Reinhardt throughout.

A  rally in the eighth inning by Reinhardt gave them a 9-5 lead, but Bluefield's fight never wavered.

Seniors Honored for Their Dedication

After Game 3, Bluefield University honored its 20 senior players. These seniors have poured their hearts and souls into the program, and their leadership on and off the field was a key factor in keeping Bluefield competitive in each of these matchups. The dedication of these players, who have worked tirelessly over the years, has helped build the foundation for a strong Bluefield program going forward.
