The Bluefield University Rams capped off their regular season with a three-game home series against Johnson University (TN), battling through dramatic walk-offs, offensive fireworks, and even a weather-shortened finale. With the Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC) tournament looming next week in Kingsport, Tennessee, the Rams now anxiously await word on whether their late-season efforts were enough to secure a postseason berth.
Game 1 – Rams Battle Back but Fall Short in Opener
Thursday's series opener saw the Rams come out swinging, piling up 13 hits in a 7–4 loss that showcased their offensive depth. After falling behind 5–0 early, Bluefield clawed back with a pair of two-run doubles from Sean Seale and Nick Stergiou, trimming the deficit to 5–3 by the third inning. Nico Guerra and Moises Aristy added multiple hits, and the Rams kept pressure on throughout the game.
Despite the loss, Bluefield's defense was flawless, committing no errors, and the bullpen duo of Jaren Woodcock and Bryce Dees allowed just one run over four innings to keep the Rams in striking distance.
Game 2 – Vega Walks It Off in Electrifying Home Opener Win
Later that day, the Rams delivered fireworks in game two. Tied 2–2 in the bottom of the seventh, Andres Vega blasted a walk-off solo home run to left field, lifting Bluefield to a thrilling 3–2 win and its first victory of the series. Vega's blast followed two earlier solo homers by Sean Seale, who turned in a two-homer performance to jump-start the Rams' offense.
On the mound, Josh Nielson pitched five solid innings, while Tyrone Woods shut the door with two scoreless frames in relief to earn the win. The Rams totaled seven hits and showcased their ability to come through in the clutch.
Game 3 – Rain Cuts Comeback Short in Finale
Bluefield wrapped the series — and the regular season — with a weather-shortened 6–1 loss on Friday afternoon. Trailing for most of the game, the Rams finally broke through in the eighth on Seale's RBI single, scoring John Greenawalt. But before Bluefield could mount a full comeback, persistent rain forced the game to be called after eight innings.
Despite the result, the Rams' bullpen again stood out. Nick Duncan threw three shutout innings, and Noah Burtner and Daniel Aguaristi followed with scoreless appearances of their own. Dylan Cutler led the offense with two hits as the Rams totaled eight on the day.
Looking Ahead
The Rams finish the regular season with a 19-24Â record and now wait to see if their body of work earns them a spot in next week's AAC Tournament in Kingsport, TN. With momentum from a dramatic win, strong bullpen performances, and flashes of offensive power, Bluefield has proven it can compete with anyone in the conference.Â
