Rams' Relentless Defense Secures Road Win Over CIU

COLUMBIA, S.C. — The Bluefield University Rams delivered a determined performance on the road Thursday night, emerging victorious over Columbia International University, 56-48. Fueled by a strong defensive showing and clutch performances from key players, the Rams showcased resilience in their fourth conference win of the season.

Dominant Defense Leads the Way
Bluefield's aggressive defense set the tone early, forcing 30 turnovers and racking up 19 steals. Ashanti Northcross was a defensive menace, swiping seven steals to disrupt CIU's offensive flow. Lina Pagan also played a pivotal role, leading the Rams with five steals while contributing nine points and four assists.

Long and Strong on Offense
Destiny Long led the scoring charge with a game-high 16 points, attacking the paint and connecting from beyond the arc. She poured in 10 first-quarter points, propelling the Rams to an early lead. Bluefield's balanced scoring saw Northcross and Pagan each add nine points, while Haley Smith provided a spark off the bench with seven points, including a crucial three-pointer in the second quarter.

Holding Off CIU's Comeback Attempt
Bluefield built a commanding 17-point lead in the second quarter, but CIU clawed back in the second half. The Rams maintained their composure, sinking crucial free throws down the stretch to seal the victory. Bluefield shot an efficient 77.3% from the line, capitalizing on CIU's defensive fouls.

With this win, the Rams improve to 4-17 in conference play and continue to show growth as they head into the final stretch of the season. Bluefield will look to carry this momentum into their next match-up as they return home to the Dome to face St. Andrews University on Saturday, February 22nd.
