Rams Fight Hard but Struggle Against Balanced Lindsey Wilson Attack

Kristen Parker

The Bluefield Rams traveled to Columbia, Kentucky, with hopes of defeating Lindsey Wilson College for the first time in program history. Having faced the Blue Raiders seven times since their first encounter in 2012, the Rams were eager to turn the tide after a 45-28 loss last year. However, Lindsey Wilson, a top-25 NAIA team in the Mid-South Conference, secured a 44-20 victory over the Rams.

Game Highlights and Key Plays

.The Rams faced a challenging start, falling behind 10-0 early in the game. Bluefield found a breakthrough with a touchdown from Cortarius Gilmore at the 6-minute mark, but Lindsey Wilson quickly countered with two more touchdowns before halftime, establishing a 24-7 lead.

Out of the break, Lindsey Wilson continued to build their advantage, pushing the score to 30-7 before the fourth quarter. Nathan Herstich, who had an impressive outing with 30 completions on 40 attempts for 250 yards and 2 touchdowns, sparked a rally by connecting with Jordan Edwards for a touchdown, narrowing the gap to 30-13. Despite this effort, Lindsey Wilson responded with two additional touchdowns, extending their lead to 44-13. In the final moments of the game, Herstich delivered a final highlight by finding Christian Mack for a late touchdown, concluding the game with a final score of 44-20.

Coach's Thoughts

Coach Dewey Lusk shared his thoughts on the game: "We are still working to play a complete game. When we are playing well, we can play with any team. We are making too many mistakes to beat a quality team like Lindsey Wilson. We will continue to work to become a more consistent football team. The season is young and this tough non-conference schedule is preparing us for AAC play. Go Rams!"

Looking Ahead

The Rams will look to bounce back when they face Campbellsville University next Saturday, September 21st, at 1:30 pm in Campbellsville, Kentucky.
