Baseball wins two at Montreat

MONTREAT, N.C. – Bluefield University baseball swept a doubleheader from the Montreat College Cavaliers in Appalachian Athletic Conference play Thursday. The Rams took the opening game 19-7 and claimed game two 2-1.
GAME ONE
BLUEFIELD 19, MONTREAT 7 (8 INNINGS)
INSIDE THE GAME
  • Johnny Medina opened the scoring with a solo home run in the top of the first and Sean Seale hit a three-run blast to give the Rams a 4-0 lead before the Cavaliers stepped to the plate.
  • Montreat scored two in the first, then added single runs in the fourth, fifth, and sixth to take a 5-4 lead.
  • Seale's RBI single in the sixth tied the game at five and the Rams added two more in the frame on a Montreat error.
  • Seale continued his hot hitting in the seventh with a grand slam home run.
  • BU scored three on a Brady Joslyn double in the eighth. Seale singled home another run, a run crossed the plate on a wild pitch, and Matt Beisecker brought home Bluefield's final two runs with a triple.
LEADERS
  • Seale finished the game with four hits, two home runs and two singles, and knocked in nine runs.
  • Moises Aristy was 3-for-4 at the plate.
  • Andres Vega, Joslyn, Nick Guerra, Bryce Medlock, and Beisecker each had a pair of hits.
  • Bryce Dees improved his pitching record to 4-1. Dees pitched six innings and struck out five.

INSIDE THE GAME
  • All of the game's runs came on solo home runs.
  • Montreat scored in the first.
  • Bluefield tied in the third and took the lead in the fifth on solo blasts by Graham Dalton.
LEADERS
  • Dalton homered twice and had two of BU's eight hits and both RBIs.
  • Aristy added a pair of hits.
  • Gabriel Delvalle earned the complete game victory as he pitched seven innings, allowed only three hits, and struck out four to improve his record to 2-1.
NEXT IN LINE
  • The third game of the series, scheduled for Friday was postponed due to weather. The Rams host WVU Tech in a non-conference game, Tuesday at Bowen Field.
