Late heroics lift Rams past WVU Tech

BLUEFIELD – Sean Seale's three run home run in the bottom of the eighth inning lifted the Bluefield University Rams to a 15-14 win over the WVU Tech Golden Bears in baseball action Tuesday afternoon at Bowen Field.
INSIDE THE GAME
  • The Golden Bears struck first with a run in the top of the first, but the Rams responded with seven in their half of the inning. Brady Joslyn had a two-run double, Dylan Cutler a two-run single, Bryce Medlock a run-scoring single, and Nick Guerra a two-run single to put BU on top 7-1.
  • Tech tacked on four runs in both the second and third innings and two in the fourth to move ahead 11-7.
  • Bluefield hung a two on the board in the fourth on a two-run double by Medlock to close to within two at 11-9.
  • WVUT scored twice in the sixth to pull ahead 13-9.
  • The Rams chipped away at the Bears lead with one in the sixth off a bases loaded walk, and another in the seventh on Seale's sacrifice fly to make the score 13-11 in favor of the visitors. Cutler's single made it a one-run game, 13-12.
  • The Golden Bears scored their final run in the eighth inning to make the score 14-12.
  • Seale slammed a three-run homer over the left field wall in the bottom of the eighth inning to give Bluefield a 15-14 lead. It was Seale's third home run in the last two games. Over that period, he accumulated 13 RBI.
  • Noah Burtner sat the Golden Bears down in order in the ninth.
  • A total of 15 pitchers were used in the game, eight by WVU Tech, seven by Bluefield.
LEADERS
  • Nick Guerra was 3-for-6 with a pair of RBIs.
  • Medlock had three hits with three runs batted in.
  • Seale was 2-for-4 with four runs knocked in.
  • Culter had a pair of hits and drove in three.
  • Burtner got the final six outs of the game to pick up his first win of the season.

  • The Rams return to Appalachian Athletic Conference play Thursday when they open a three-game series against St. Andrews. The doubleheader begins at 1 p.m. at Bowen Field.
