Softball wins conference opener

BLUEFIELD – Bluefield University softball won its second straight game and picked up its first Appalachian Athletic Conference win in Tuesday's doubleheader opener against Tennessee Wesleyan University. The Rams won game one 8-6, but fell 7-0 to the Bulldogs in game two.

INSIDE THE GAME
  • The Rams jumped ahead 2-0 in the first on RBI singles by Kenidy Harris and Breyana Ellett.
  • The Bulldogs scored twice in the third and three times in the fourth to go ahead.
  • Two 13-pitch at-bats by the Rams in the fourth were key as Brooklyn Schwartz followed her long at-bat with a two-run single, and Chloe Hicks long plate appearance culminated with an RBI double. Alexis McDuffie added a run-scoring single to put Bluefield ahead 8-.
  • TWU added a run in the sixth.
  • Five of Tennessee Wesleyan's six runs came on three TWU home runs.
