BLUEFIELD – Bluefield University Rams softball split a doubleheader Friday against the Mary Baldwin University Fighting Squirrels at the Bluefield High School Softball Field. The Rams took game one 10-8 but fell in game two 15-5. The Rams' record now stands at 4-4 on the season as they have split four twinbills.
GAME ONE
BLUEFIELD 10, MARY BALDWIN 8
INSIDE THE GAME

• MBU jumped on the Rams at the outset, scoring five runs in the first inning.
• BU responded in the bottom of the first with eight runs to take the lead. Kenidy Harris had an RBI single, Chloe Hicks a two-run double, Cailin Zagas and Kaylee Hughes each had run-scoring singles, and Gianna Sloan-Lebron finished the scoring with a two-run double.
• Both teams added a run in the fourth. The Rams' score came on a run-scoring double by Kersten Buchanan.

LEADERS

• Hughes had three hits.
• Harris and Buchanan each had a pair of hits.
• Sloan-Lebron, Harris, and Hicks each knocked in two runs.
• Hallie Cox improved her pitching record to 3-0 as she worked six innings and struck out six.
• Mackenzie Franklin earned the save.

GAME TWO
MARY BALDWIN 15, BLUEFIELD 5
INSIDE THE GAME

• The Fighting Squirrels held a 4-0 lead going into the bottom of the third.
• The Rams plated two runs in the third on run-scoring singles by Hughes and Sloan-Lebron.
• MBU scored seven times in the fifth to take an 11-2 lead.
• BU scored three in the fifth and were down to their last out and the game ending on the run-rule. Sloan-Lebron's triple scored one run and Harris' two-run homer Bluefield extended life.
• Mary Baldwin scored four times in the sixth. Bluefield could not push across any runs in the bottom of the inning and the game ended on the run rule.

LEADERS

• Sloan-Lebron was 2-for-3 with two RBIs.
• Harris knocked in two runs.

• BU returns to the diamond on Tuesday with an Appalachian Athletic Conference doubleheader at Kentucky Christian University.
