Bluefield, VA — In a thrilling back-and-forth battle at the Dome, the Bluefield Rams fell just short, losing to Clinton College 61-59 in a hard-fought contest. Clinton, coming into the game with a perfect 2-0 record, proved to be a formidable opponent for the Rams.
The Rams started strong, building a solid lead in the first half behind strong defense and efficient offensive play. Junior guard Ahmiah Jordan was one of the standout performers, leading the Rams with 15 points, including key buckets that kept Bluefield ahead in the first two quarters. Jordan's leadership and energy were clear as the Rams went into halftime with a slim advantage.
We played well in the first half," Jordan said after the game. "We limited their points and played solid defense. We were up by a few, and that gave us the momentum to keep pushing. But giving up easy layups and not getting back on defense allowed them to close the gap. As a result, we ended up rushing some shots and forcing plays we shouldn't have. On the positive side, our post production was strong, and that helped a lot. Overall, though, I think we did well. We all locked in and did our part on the floor. This game was a real example of how we can work together as a team."
The Rams' offensive attack was well-rounded, with several players contributing. Kiarra Guzman chipped in 12 points and grabbed 7 rebounds. Destiny Long added 11 points and 8 rebounds, while Elle Gunter scored 6 points and dished out 4 assists. The team also had a strong showing in the post, with Gabriela Rosado pulling down 5 boards in 16 minutes of action.
Head Coach Jake Wright was proud of his team's effort, despite the close loss. "I'm so very proud of the girls tonight! I thought they played their tails off for 40 minutes and played a complete game for the first time in a long time. We will definitely be able to learn a lot from this game and look back on it in a couple of months and be proud of the strides we have made. Tonight, we represented BU the right way!"
