Battle of the Bluefields Recap: A Night of Intense Rivalry

In a highly anticipated exhibition game, both Bluefield University's Women's and Men's Basketball teams faced off against their close neighbors, Bluefield State, an NCAA Division II school, in the annual "Battle of the Bluefields." With Bluefield State just a short 3-mile distance from Bluefield University's campus, the atmosphere was electric, and a strong crowd came out to witness this classic cross-town rivalry. Here's a recap of the night's events:

Women's Basketball Recap

The Women's Basketball team ultimately fell to Bluefield State with a final score of 79-50. 

  • Destiny Long led the charge for Bluefield University, scoring 19 points, also contributing 5 rebounds and 3 steals. 
  • Lina Pagan put up a solid effort with 7 points, 6 rebounds, and 2 steals.
  • Kiarra Guzman also added 7 points while grabbing 4 rebounds.

Men's Basketball Recap

The Men's Basketball team faced a challenging opponent in Bluefield State, ending the exhibition game with a final score of 119-78. Here are some notable performances from the night:

  • Quantavis McKinney led Bluefield University with 19 points, including three 3-pointers, and contributed 6 assists.
  • Tyler Suber added 12 points, shooting 4-8 from the field and hitting 3 out of 4 free throws.
