NEW ORLEANS – Bluefield University Women's Volleyball opened the 2023 season at the Wolf Pack Welcome Tournament in New Orleans, Friday. The Rams dropped a pair of matches, first to Michigan-Dearborn, 3-1, and then to Emmanuel (Mo.) 3-0.
In the opening match against Michigan-Dearborn the Rams dropped the first set 9-25, then drew even with a 25-15 win in the second set. UMD took the final two sets 25-22 and 25-21 to take the match.
Joslyn Evans, in her BU debut, has 18 kills and 15 digs. Lianette Burgos, in her first match as a Ram had 25 assists. Georgia Lewis picked up 16 digs.
In the second match of the day Bluefield fell in three sets to Evangel (Mo.) 15-25, 9-25, 18-25.
Evans finished with nine kills and seven digs, Burgos passed out 20 assists, and Lewis collected 21 digs.
BU wraps up play in the Big Easy, Saturday, with a pair of matches including one against host Loyola.
