BLUEFIELD – The Bluefield University women's volleyball team claimed a hard-fought five set win over the Union College Bulldogs, Tuesday night in Appalachian Athletic Conference play at the Dome Gymnasium. Union took the first and fourth sets, Bluefield won the second, third, and deciding fifth.
INSIDE THE MATCH
- The teams battled hard from the outset as Union won the opening set 30-28. The Rams led by five, 19-14 before Union went on a 7-2 rally to tie the match at 21. The teams battled point-by-point until the Bulldogs pulled away at the end.
- Bluefield evened the match at 1-1 with a 25-18 win in set two. It was tight early with Union tying at 15. The Rams then took control and closed the set on a 10-3 run.
- BU took the match lead with a 25-16 victory in the third set. After early battles for points, the Rams took control of the set.
- Union bounced back to tie the match in the fourth set with a 31-29 win. The Bulldogs opened an early eight-point lead and the Rams slowly closed the gap, tying at 24, then taking it's last lead at 29-28. Union rallied for the final three points to take the set and force a deciding fifth set.
- In the fifth it was all Bluefield. The Rams led 8-5 as the teams switched sides on the court and went on for a 15-9 win to claim the match.
LEADERS
- Nayerly Jimenez sparked the Rams with a season-high 61 assists. She also had 12 digs and three service aces.
- Liangelys Santana had a double-double with 22 kills and 14 digs. She had four service aces.
- Georgia Lewis collected 23 digs.
- Joslyn Evans finished with 17 kills and three blocks.
